What attracted you to GSV?

I wanted to join a service organization which would work to improve the lives of women and children. I also wanted to become a member of a faith-based service program with an emphasis on social justive and the support of a community.

Where are you serving/what kind of work are you doing?

I am serving at the Good Shepherd Shelter in Los Angeles, CA. There I am working as a fourth, fifth, and sixth grade school teacher teaching all academic subjects.

How have you seen personal growth thus far as a result of your experience (site placement/community) with GSV?

I have seen personal growth in regard to my self-awareness both at my site placement and within my community. I have come to a better understanding of my passions, vocation, and role as a community member.

What is the best or most surprising part about your volunteer year so far?

The BEST part about my volunteer year so far has been working with the most incredible children, women, sisters, and staff that I have ever met. I am constantly inspired and amazed and motivated by their passions and perseverance.

Any advice for someone considering post-graduate service?

DO IT! It will be challenging, life-giving, enlightening, rewarding, and one of the best experiences you will ever get the opportunity to be a part of! It will expose you to a world that will forever change you and one that you could not possibly take yourself away from!
