What attracted you to GSV?

I know I wanted to spend at least a year of my life serving, and the GSV program stuck out because I was inspired by their mission and four tenets. I also loved how small and personable the program was.

Where are you serving/what kind of work are you doing?

I am working at Collier High School, an alternative school in Wickatunk, NJ. I am helping out in gym classes, biology classes, administration, and teaching a life skills class. I am also substitute teaching and helping coach the soccer team.

How have you seen personal growth thus far as a result of your experience (site placement/community) with GSV?

GSV has helped me to learn more about myself and my personality, and how I get along with others and their personalities. I feel like I already have more awareness about myself, how I interact with others, and how my community can challenge me to become better.

What is the best or most surprising part about your volunteer year so far?

The most surprising part about my year has been how generous everyone at my placement as well as the GSV staff have been. I feel like I have a huge support system here, and am surrounded by people that what to help me make the most out of this experience.

Any advice for someone considering post-graduate service?

Check out GSV!  It is such a wonderful program and DEFINITELY worth looking into!
