The National Advocacy Center:

NAC works to educate and develop strategies to address social justice issues and to advocate for the transformation of society to the benefit of all people.  The NAC amplifies the Good Shepherd voice by linking the ministries and services of the Sisters, lay associates, and lay staff around the country to speak up and work for change in the structures of society.

GSV Role:

The GSV who serves with the NAC will be a representative of NAC, both locally and nationally, at coalition meetings, Capitol Hill lobby visits, rallies, conferences, and visits with their partner agencies.  The GSV serves an important role in moving the work of the NAC forward by gathering information from Good Shepherd agencies to help identify high priority policy and legislative concerns, tracking key legislation through Congress, and assisting them in making legislative appointments. The GSV will help educate the NAC's partners on advocacy and its intrinsic connection and value to the work that is being done in the field by helping to design webinars for Good Shepherd agencies and planning logistics for internal and external conferences.  The GSV will also work to increase and expand the NAC's presence on social media, and help them to engage more young people in its advocacy network.

Good Shepherd Volunteers connects recent college graduates to one-year, full time volunteer opportunities serving women, children, and adolescents affected by poverty, violence, and neglect. Developing relationships with under-resourced communities empowers volunteers to grow in a knowledge and faith that inspires them to lead a life of seeking justice. GSV has placements in New York, New Jersey and the Washington D.C. area in a variety of fields: public policy and advocacy, economic justice, youth counseling, foster care and education.
