CORA Services is a Good Shepherd organization located in northeast Philadelphia.  CORA’s mission is to assist youth, children, and families experiencing emotional, academic, and social challenges which impede their development and productivity.  CORA provides this assistance throughout the greater Philadelphia area, serving over 18,000 children a year.

 

GSV Role

We have the following volunteer opportunities at CORA Services:

  • Mediation Services: Observe mediations and restorative justice processes, receive training in conflict resolution models, acquire trauma-informed facilitation skills for serving youth, and gain first-hand insight into the inner workings of a non-profit. Individuals will be asked to assist with client intake, case management, data collection, and other administrative duties. Through these tasks, and by accompanying Good Shepherd Mediation Program staff to meetings, individuals  will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the variety of work, expertise, and projects encompassed in the mediation field.

 

  • Case Manager: This position works in our Truancy department, engaging clients, their families and other significant persons in a collaborative relationship that will enhance the potential for the client’s completion of service with positive outcomes.  Staff work collaboratively with the family and court representative in the implementation of a plan with the goal of returning the child to regular school attendance. This role also helps connect clients to available community resources and facilitate client/family access to appropriate resources and services necessary to support and supplement service goals.  This role involves providing services where it is most conducive to achieving desired goals, which includes and is not limited to clients’ homes, schools, court, recreation centers and treatment facilities.

  • After School Programming Group Leader/Education Specialist: This position works in our After School Program, providing robust out of school time to children in the School District of Philadelphia enrolled in Grades K – 5th. Part of this role will be spent creating curriculum for the after school programs, especially in support of 21st Century learning goals and objectives.  In the afternoon, this role will work to coordinate the age appropriate recreational and developmental programs for the attending students based on an understanding of the planned daily and monthly activities. Time will be spent assisting  students in the accurate completion of homework, project-based learning (PBL) and other program activities.

 

  • Social Emotional Coach: Work collaboratively with supervisors and Site Coordinators to provide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instructional programing .  Using proven curriculum models, the Social Emotional Coach will deliver SEL  and Drug and Alcohol Prevention programing to students in CORA’s after school programs.

  • Family Engagement Specialist: Collaborate with all YouthCOR after school programs to develop high quality family engagement activities and opportunities for families and children.  The Family Engagement Specialist is also charged with developing a wide array of community resources and building connections between these resources and the families and children served in our after school programs. Collaborate with Lifeline Parenting Coordinator and Truancy Supervisors to explore cross collaboration opportunities.

  • Assistant Teacher, Early Years: Assist in various classrooms in our Early Years centers. The Assistant Teacher will:

-  Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing educational lesson plans based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards, in conjunction with the OCDEL-approved curriculum.

- Participate in individual and group activities to actively engage children and encourage cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

- Help to monitor growth and development of children based on established learning objectives using age-appropriate assessment tools.

- Participate collaboratively and professionally with other teachers and staff to promote the general well-being of the Early Years program.

  • Administrative Role—Data Entry and Analysis: Input a large volume of service impact data and work with various administrative staff to review and evaluate data for service trends, impact on stated goals of individuals and programs involved and incorporate recommendations made into program design and implementation.  After initial task completion, work may expand to larger Agency data collection and management projects across Divisions and Programs 

  • Administrative Role, Service Desk—IT Department: Assist our Service Desk in responding to requests for assistance through CORA’s web-based ticketing system, logging, diagnosing, and remediating various end user support/help desk issues. Assist with workstation, VOIP phone, printer and mobile device maintenance and support, set up and manage user accounts for Active Directory, Office 365, phones and voice mail, and work with the IT team to document processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
